What if you could practice eating at a restaurant with others who "get it"?

Introducing...

The Recovery Table

A supported restaurant experience for eating disorder recovery

Upcoming IN-PERSON restaurant event will be on Wednesday, December 10th from 4-6pm EST at Bardō in Hamilton ON!

The Recovery Table

Come enjoy a relaxed evening out with Registered Dietitian Courtenay Vickers and Recovery Coach Laura Shaw.

"The Recovery Table" is your chance to practice eating out at a restaurant in a supportive, non-judgmental space. Connect with others, build confidence, and explore flexibility around food with others who get it.

Courtenay and Laura will guide the evening with gentle structure, grounding, and conversation, so you can feel supported while enjoying a meal in the company of others also on their recovery journey.

Is this where you're at?

😬 You've been working at ED recovery for quite some time, but wish you had more people to actually EAT with

😵‍💫 You're tired of having your guard up because of comments other people make about food and body, when you just want to ENJOY the moment.

😰 And every time you try to work up the courage to go out to eat, it doesn't always work out as planned.

Imagine...

😌 Feeling more at ease when going out to eat

🫶 You have a supportive community around you - no diet talk or body talk.

🙌 You are able to order a new food and feel supported by your choice.

❤️ Eating at restaurants in recovery starts to feel more manageable, even enjoyable!

Practice actually going to a restaurant with others who "get it"!

What to expect at your restaurant outing:

You'll get to select your meal ahead of time once you register (most outings will include a starter, entree and non-alcoholic beverage). But when you register for an event with The Recovery Table, you'll be getting so much more than just a meal.

🫶 Enjoy a relaxed, pro-recovery evening out with food and company

Courtenay Vickers RD, CEDS

Hi! I'm Courtenay Vickers (she/her), and I'm a Registered Dietitian and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist based in Hamilton, Ontario in Canada 🇨🇦

With over a decade of experience as an RD, I'm passionate about weight-inclusive eating disorder care. I use an anti-diet lens, challenge diet culture norms, and look beyond traditional ED care to help folks heal their relationship with food and body.

I've run my own private practice for the past 6+ years, focusing on eating disorders, and have collaborated with many other providers and organizations offering individual nutrition counselling, group facilitation, professional training and supervision, and more within the ED world.

When I'm not supporting folks with their recovery, I can probably be found exploring nature with my dog, baking something in the kitchen or reading a good book.

FAQs

Who is "The Recovery Table" for?

The Recovery Table is designed for anyone in eating disorder recovery who wants support with eating at restaurants in a pro-recovery, non-diet environment. Ideally you are in a place with your recovery where going out to eat at a restaurant is a realistic goal. You don’t need a formal diagnosis or proof of past treatment - just an interest in building confidence, flexibility, and connection around food!

Can I select my meal ahead of time?

Yes! When you purchase your ticket, we will provide you with a simplified menu so you can select your meal before the event. This can help reduce the overwhelm so that you can show up feeling more present and ready for the meal at the restaurant.

Can I bring a friend?

If you’d like to bring someone, please reach out to [email protected]. Space is limited, and we want to make sure all attendees understand and support the pro-recovery environment.

What does the cost of a ticket get me?

When you register for any event with The Recovery Table, your ticket price includes everything for the evening! All food and non-alcoholic beverages, as outlined in your confirmation email upon registering, will be covered. You will not need to pay for anything more.

What if I have allergies or dietary restrictions?

You’ll be able to share any allergies or dietary restrictions ahead of time during registration. We work with each restaurant to ensure safe, suitable options whenever possible.

How many people will be there?

The Recovery Table is an intimate restaurant gathering with a maximum of 8 participants, plus your facilitators Laura and Courtenay.

If you have any other questions or want to connect with one of the facilitators directly, email [email protected].

I'm interested but nervous to say yes!

It's totally normal to feel a bit nervous about in-person gatherings, especially related to food! And, this is exactly why we created The Recovery Table. Our aim is to host an evening meal where you can meet up with others who get it. Your facilitators will do their best to guide the evening with supportive conversation and moments of grounding. We'll be keeping it light and pro-recovery!

Are there other dates for future in-person events?
